In 2006, the Chinese Government initiated the enrollment of international students in medical programs offered by Chinese universities conducted in English. Since then, students have had the opportunity to pursue their MBBS degree in China. Starting from 2013, studying MBBS in China has gained significant popularity among Indian students.

To uphold quality standards, certain medical schools in China are allocated specific quotas for admitting international students to these English-medium programs. While other Chinese medical universities are not restricted from accepting international students, the Government mandates that these students must enroll in medical programs conducted in Chinese. This situation has resulted in an issue where many agents have been sending Indian students to China for the Chinese Medicine Program (TCM) without properly informing them.
