Asbestos has hit the headlines in the past, as it's notoriously bad for human health yet many buildings still contain it in some form. This important training raises awareness of the dangers of coming into contact with it so that you can keep safe.
It has been developed in partnership with risk management specialists Life Environmental Services and the certificate has been accredited by the United Kingdom Asbestos Training Associate (UKATA)|.
After doing the course learners should be able to:
Describe the risks and effects of exposure to asbestos and the increased hazards to smokers
Outline the types of asbestos and explain where they and ACMs are likely to be found inside buildings and plants
Describe the main reasons for using asbestos insulation, insulating boards, cement and other ACMs
Describe the risks of fibre release from ACMs
Demonstrate awareness of how to find information about the presence of asbestos before starting work
Describe which procedures to follow if unintentional contact is made with ACMs and have knowledge of appropriate emergency procedures
Outline the asbestos-related legislation, particularly regulations 4 and 5 of The Control of Asbestos Regulations (CAR)
Please note that this course is Category A training and does not qualify people to work with asbestos-containing materials (ACMs).
